Lessons 1&2

  • In class exercises, come to class!

Lesson 3
  • Exercise 3-1, draw on your "object" layer, not "0" as the book suggests.
  • Put all of your drawings on one sheet, this is not what the book suggests
  • Dimension your drawings.
  • We will pick a number of these to print for your weekly assignment.
    • Label your "view title" with the appropriate name and scale.

LINE 24

Drawing Template

  • Change your "view title" scale to say ?? = 1'-0".  This is a more standard way of notation (although obvious and seemingly unnecessary).
    • Copy what is notated in your viewport dialog box.
  • Separate the text in your title block by appropriately spaced lines, make the line separation consistent.
    • See the drawing above.
  • Make the text font "RomanS", 3/16" height.
  • Change you border to the standard color blue from gray the same as your title block layer.
  • Change your title block layer to white.
  • Make the text in the title block the only thing on this layer, everything else (lines border) should be on your new blue colored layer "border".
  • Create a double border line, offset the first line by 1/8" to the outside.

  • Your assignments for this week are as follows:
  • The bed assignment.
          • Create 3 viewports on "B" size paper showing your 3 beds.
          • Cover the elements as discussed in class including using
              • RomanS font, ALL CAPITALS
              • View Titles centered below the object
              • Title block with the appropriate information in it
              • Scale each Viewport and include that scale in the View Title labeled SCALE: X" = 1'
                • Extra Credit for
                  • Pillows the same size
                  • Pillow spacing as described above
                  • A note describing the spacing
          • Print out the Sofa and Chair-1 using the same guidelines above
          • Print out the at least two items of your choice using the same guidelines above
          • You'll also be graded on your template updates.

    Lesson 3 and 4

    Assignments:

    • We will pick 3 more drawing assignments like last week's. Use an appropriate title for each drawing.
      • The first will be the double hung window.
        • Ignore the layer directions.
      • The second will be the ceiling fan.
        • Extra credit if you draw the 5 bladed fan with the 4' dimension as shown in the book.
      • The third will be all of the plumbing related fixtures in Lesson 3.
        • Place all fixtures on one sheet.
        • Use an appropriate scale.
        • Scale the dimensions according to the formula below.
        • Title for this sheet: PLUMBING DETAILS
        • Include a similar note (don't just copy this one):
        • NOTES
          1. PROVIDE 3/4" COPPER SUPPLY LINES FOR ALL FIXTURES SHOWN.
          2. PROVIDE ABS WASTE PIPES FOR FIRST FLOOR FIXTURES ONLY, PROVIDE CAST IRON WASTE PIPES FOR SECOND FLOOR FIXTURES.

          3.
    • Read Exercise 3-3.
      • Do not draw the handicap graphic.
    • Start the floor plan of the house, do exercise 4-1.
      • Plot the Basement, First Floor and Second Floor Plan, each on your 17"x11" template (three drawings total).
      • Plot at an appropriate scale
      • Include all appropriate dimensions

    Drawing Template:

    • Dimensions should be scaled using the following formula:
      • On the dimension toolbar, click on the bottom button, "dimension style".
      • Click the "modify" button.
      • Chose the "fit" tab.
        • Enter the reciprocal of your "viewport" scale (found in the viewport toolbar window) multiplied by 0.5.  (in other words the dimension "fit" is 50% of the reciprocal of your view scale.
      • You will be graded on this, this week and from now on.
    • Add a line in your Title Block with a notation "SCALE, AS NOTED".

    Assignments:

    • Lesson 4-2, add doors, two, not three, drawings.

Come up with a dimensioning format for the two types of dimensions, the door placement dimension and the door width dimension.  One way is to place one dimension on one side of a wall and the other on the opposite wall.  You can also use a radius dimenson on the door swing.  Yet another option is to use "typical" when appropriate.  What ever you chose be consistent.

    Drawing Template:

    • No updates this week.

  • Assignments (3 to turn in, 4 to be graded):

  •
    • Lesson 4-3, follow class example or the book.
    • Lesson 4-4, follow the book only until the bottom of page 4-44.
      • In Figure 4-4.8 under Text Placement, DO NOT follow the book, please make sure the "Beside the dimension line" is checked.
    • Extra credit, up to 20 points, Task 4-2
      • lines should be white not the invisible color of yellow as the book suggests.
      • Print out 3 floor plans with the stairs, either 4-1, 4-2 or 4-3 without the stair dimensions but including all of the other elements.
      • On one of the sheets, show a 1/4" = 1'-0" detail of the stairs with the critical dimensions as shown in the book.
      • Grading will be up to 5 points for each of the floor plans and up to 10 points for the floor plan with the detail.

        • Floor Plan with the stair detail.

Floor Plan with the stair detail, printed view.
    Drawing Template:

Emulate the Title Block shown below

    • Rotate your existing Title Block.
    • Add the necessary boxes and text.
    • Equal height for the lines separating the text in the designer information area.
    • Use monospace font for the large lettering in the Title Block.
      • 3/16" text height for the large text, 1/8" for the small text.
      • The other text stays at RomanS, 1/8".
      • Use what ever you want to define your project by renaming "HOUSE PROJECT"
        • Use your name as an example, the "KRUEGER RESIDENCE" for instance.
    • It has to look very similar to what you see (for reasons that will become clear later and besides you'll get a poor grade otherwise).

        • already drawing the whole thing around the porch area).
          • Show the railing top and bottom around the whole porch area.
          • Show a diagonal slash implying continuation.
          • Do this on the South Elevation in the first bay east of the garage.

          • Provide labels on your furniture or fixtures.
            • Labels don't have to be horizontal.
    Tips:
    • You'll have to create a new layout for each sheet
      • Use Ansi "D" size paper, 22" x 34"
      • Logo and Title Block will be twice as big
      • Fill in the "Checked By" with "CSS"
      • Provide a real name and address (not Fake Street, for example)
    • Go back and check all of your drawing "markups" and incorporate those corrections.
      • I won't be telling you what I'm looking for, you should know that by now.
    • Dimension Guidelines, they may be crowded in places so take the time to make them look neat:
      • Move the larger dimensions to the outside, small ones closer to the object being dimensioned
      • Don't forget to use the "dog leg", moving the dimension text to a different location, perhaps to

      • an adjacent room.
      • Align the dimensions with each other when adjacent to each other.
    • Grading will be on a different sheet so that you can keep your drawings unmarked
      • for your own school portfolio.
    • Staple the drawings together on the left margin and roll them up with a rubber band.
      • They will be graded and back in the box the following week and through the first week

      • of Winter quarter.
    Questions:

    Jason Peterson wrote this:

because the size of the paper is bigger, are we changing the size of the viewports. ie. on sheet 4 there is a lot of room between the sections. are we keeping the size of the sections the same as when we printed them out for our assignments, or are we going to make them a bit bigger so it does not seem like we are wasting space?
    Jason Petterson

I would suggest that you fill the page as best you can with out making it looking crowded.
This may mean making the scale on the viewports bigger.

In short, make it look good for you won't be punished for your efforts.

    CSS

An example of the Floor Plan follows below, viewports are the same size as on the 11 x 17 drawings.
This drawing is an example and may not be complete as required.
